Friedrich von Bodelschwingh (theologian, 1902)

Friedrich von Bodelschwingh (born May 23, 1902 in Bonn , † June 5, 1977 in Bielefeld ) was a Protestant theologian .

Life

Bodelschwingh was born as the son of Wilhelm and Luise von Bodelschwingh . He grew up in Bethel . After graduating from high school in Gütersloh in 1922, he studied Protestant theology at the theological school in Bethel and at the universities in Tübingen , Rostock , Zurich and Münster . After taking the theological exams, he went to the Cathedral Candidate Foundation in Berlin.

In 1929 he took up his first pastor's position in Dortmund - Kirchlinde . In 1933 he returned to the von Bodelschwingh institutes founded by his grandfather Friedrich von Bodelschwingh and worked there as a chaplain. In addition, he took over the management of the voluntary labor service in Hermannsheide and of the candidate convict in Bethel.

From 1936 he was parish priest again in Schluesselburg near Minden, and in 1942 he took over a parish in Gütersloh . Eventually he was drafted into the war and was taken prisoner.

After the death of his uncle Friedrich in 1946, he took over the management of the Bethel establishment. From 1959 to 1969 he was head of the entire von Bodelschwingh Foundation, where he also died.
