Friedrich von Fischer

Freiherr Friedrich von Fischer (born June 17, 1826 in Semlin , † April 19, 1907 in Vienna ) was an Austrian general and historian .

Life

Fischer, born in Semlin in 1826, graduated from the Theresian Military Academy and was a member of the General Staff from 1850 . In 1857 he was assigned to the war history office. In 1866 he was in the rank of colonel as chief of staff at the Krakow Fortress Command. After the war, Fischer was appointed director of the Office for War History , which, under his direction and cooperation, published the works The War in Italy (3 volumes, Vienna 1872) and Austrian battles in 1866 (5 volumes, Vienna 1867 to 1869). In 1873 Fischer was promoted to major general and from 1874 he was appointed commander of the war school , whose graduates under his command included Field Marshal Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf , Field Marshal Hermann Kövess von Kövesshaza and other generals. In 1878 he received the rank of Lieutenant Field Marshal . In 1881 he was accepted into the nobility with the title of baron .

Friedrich Freiherr von Fischer died in Vienna in 1907 at the age of 80.
