Jemal Pierre Johnson (born May 3, 1985 in Paterson , New Jersey ) is an American football player . The fast-paced winger , who can also be used in central offensive positions, has played for more than 15 clubs in Europe and North America. He is currently under contract with Jacksonville Armada in the North American Soccer League .

Athletic career

At the age of five, Jemal Johnson moved with his family from the United States to Macclesfield, England, and gained access to Manchester United's youth department at a young age . He enjoyed an academy training from 2001 with the Blackburn Rovers , was there later both a regular player in the U-19 team and in the reserve team and was taken over in December 2004 in the professional squad. He played his first competitive game for the "A-Team" as a substitute for the Rovers on January 8, 2005 on the occasion of a third round match in the FA Cup against Cardiff City and left in his first appearance from the start - also in the English Cup three weeks later Colchester United scored his first goal to follow. In addition, Johnson came to three half-hour short appearances in the Premier League . With his additional six hits in 15 games for the reserve eleven, the "wing racer", which can be used primarily in both outer positions, was considered one of the most promising talents in Blackburn.

However, he was denied the leap into the starting line-up of the Rovers in the 2005/06 season. Although Johnson had agreed to a contract extension at the beginning of the season, he mostly only got two short stays at visiting clubs. He played between the end of October and November 2005 at the second division Preston North End and between March and April 2006 at the fourth division FC Darlington three and nine league games, respectively.

On August 17, 2006 Johnson signed a two-year contract with second division Wolverhampton Wanderers , with the parties involved agreeing to keep the amount of the transfer fee confidential. After an optimal debut at the "Wolves" when Johnson scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 win in the first two league games of the 2006/07 season against Burnley FC and Luton Town , the rest of the time in Wolverhampton was marked by disappointments . Johnson scored only one goal in the following 21 games and in February 2007 he was given the opportunity to prove himself on loan at second division rivals Leeds United , but even there he found himself often only on the bench. Wolves coach Mick McCarthy put Johnson on the transfer list after his return and on August 31, 2007, a buyer was found in fourth division club Milton Keynes Dons .

During his nine club "JJ" presented all its strengths in counter attacks demonstrated, scored all of his eight goals during the rise of the 2007/08 season at away games and won after a 2: 0 final victory against Grimsby Town with the Football League Trophy his first national Title. With 22 substitutions in 39 championship games, however, he remained as a "supplementary player", as in the following season 2008/09. Nevertheless, he signed a new contract for another two years in July 2009 after a long contract poker with the club, which is now active in the third-tier Football League One , and began the 2009/10 season as a regular player. However, Johnson lost his place in the starting eleven during the first half of the season and so he was awarded to league rivals Stockport County in January 2010 for the rest of the season . After 16 league games with two goals, Johnson returned to MK Dons at the beginning of the 2010/2011 season, but found himself again on the bench. In September he was loaned to fourth division Port Vale for a month before both sides dissolved the contract by mutual agreement in January 2011.

In the first half of 2011 Johnson played for Bulgarian first division club Lokomotive Sofia and scored one goal in ten games. In the summer he returned to England to sign a 12-month contract with second division side Southend United . After five games without a goal, Johnson was placed under police arrest for engaging in a brawl outside a nightclub in London . The club then suspended him in December of that year.

In 2012, Johnson kept fit with the lower-class clubs Dover Athletic FC and Tamworth FC .

The winger returned to the United States in early 2013. He joined the Fort Lauderdale Strikers from the North American Soccer League by the end of the first half of the season . For the second half of the season Johnson moved within the league to New York Cosmos . In 2013, however, he was only used in one league game due to a knee injury. In the 2014 season, Johnson completed 19 games in which he scored a goal against his ex-club, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. For the 2015 season he switched to the newly founded Jacksonville Armada franchise , which also competes in the North American Soccer League.
