The Jacksonville Armada Football Club , in short Jacksonville Armada is an American football - Franchise of the National Premier Soccer League from Jacksonville , Florida .

The team, founded in 2013, played in the North American Soccer League from 2015 to 2017 . For the 2018 season, the team switched to the National Premier Soccer League , as the NASL does not play a season.

The home games are played at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville .

history

In May 2013 the businessman Mark Frisch and the former soccer player Darío Sala founded the Sunshine Soccer Group with the intention of establishing a professional soccer team in Jacksonville. This project was supported by various games, including international ones , in EverBank Field . NASL invited the investor group to a presentation of a possible franchise on July 25, 2013. As a result, the Sunshine Soccer Group received the license to found a NASL franchise, which will take part in the game from the 2015 season.

The Armada will compete for the first time in the 2015 Spring Season. Sala will fill the position of general manager and former NFL Europe and Jacksonville Jaguars official Steve Livingstone has been won as president. On February 18, the team name was officially presented and on June 11, 2014, the first coach, José Luis Villarreal, was signed.

Stadion

Home games are played at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, a ballpark. The 11,000-seat stadium opened in 2003 and is primarily used by the Jacksonville Suns baseball team. The ball park is located in downtown Jacksonville between the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena and EverBank Field .

The owner of the franchise is the CEO and co-founder of the Sunshine Soccer Group, Mark Frisch. He is also Vice President of Beaver Street Fisheries / Sea Best.

Former American football official Steve Livingstone has served as president since October 2013. He also oversees the finance and commercial affairs of the franchise.

Former soccer player Darío Sala takes care of the sporting area . The Argentine played 100 MLS games for FC Dallas from 2005 to 2010 . Before that, he worked for teams from South and Central America. The former goalkeeper heads Soccer Operations in Jacksonville.

Youth and development

Armada FC does not have its own youth department. But partnerships have been concluded with various teams so that the franchise can make use of a broad youth base.
