Friedrich Anton von Hundbiß (* 1769 in Meersburg ; † 18th September 1805 in the submarine ) was the last fürstbischöflich-konstanzischer Obervogt on the island of Reichenau .

biography

Friedrich Anton von Hundbiß came from the Waltramser line of the barons of Hundbiß and was the son of Johann Nepomuk von Hundbiß (1724–1793), who was also Obervogt on Reichenau. Friedrich entered the service of the prince-bishop of Constance at an early age and married the baroness Sophie von Rotberg, who was the same age. In 1798 he was appointed as the successor to Konrad Lenz von Lenzenfeld as Obervogt on the Reichenau. He had his official residence in what was then the monastic library building in the Kaiserpfalz.

Its administrative area, the Obervogteiamt Reichenau , included the island of Reichenau, Allensbach , Hegne , Markelfingen , Kaltbrunn , Wollmatingen , Thürrain , Adelheiden and various farms, as well as the Swiss areas of Steckborn , Berlingen , Ermatingen , Feldbach , Frutwylen , Mannenbach , Rogerswil , Triboltingen and Salenstein .

During his tenure, Hundbiß made a special contribution to viticulture on the island, he also took strict action against corruption among officials and was responsible for ensuring that a respectable forest area was added to the Bodanrück of the island of Reichenau when the Dettinger forest was divided . From 1798 onwards, after the successful efforts to achieve independence in the canton of Thurgau, the upper bailiwick was limited to parts of the German territory.

In 1802 Hundbiß wrote the historical-topographical description of the island of Reichenau and the localities belonging to it for the Constance prince-bishop Karl Theodor von Dalberg . Hundbiß may have foreseen the decisions of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, which gave Reichenau to the state of Baden , because his description is already dedicated to the Baden margrave Karl Friedrich .

With Reichenau, Hundbiß came to Baden in 1803 and was from then on as Baden's Obervogt. Around that time, Hundbiss fell into severe depression . On September 18, 1805, he attempted suicide in the waters of the Untersee . He left behind his wife and children Friedrich and Angelika.
