Friedrich (von) Zander (born March 28, 1791 in Mohrungen , Kingdom of Prussia , † April 14, 1868 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was the highest judge in (East) Prussia for 36 years.

Friedrich Zander came from an East Prussian family, he was the son of the royal Prussian judicial councilor Friedrich Zander (1766–1810), mayor of justice and patrimonial judge of Mohrungen, and Elisabeth b. Thatz (1768-1812).

Zander married on December 6, 1813 in Königsberg Amalie Lindemann (born April 10, 1792 in Königsberg; † April 21, 1853 there), the daughter of the royal Prussian war council and war paymaster Friedrich Ludwig Lindemann and Christina Wilhelmina Amalia Bock . The couple had nine children.

Life

Zander studied law and philosophy at the Albertus University in Königsberg from 1805 to 1808 . He was then an auscultator in his hometown. In 1811 he became a trainee lawyer and in 1813 an assessor in Insterburg . In 1816 he became a higher regional judge in Marienwerder ( West Prussia ) and in 1825 director at the higher regional court in Königsberg . In 1828 he became Vice-President there and from 1832 to 1849 he was Chief President of the Higher Regional Court. With the reform of the court system in 1849, he became the first president of the now appellate court , which from 1856 was named " East Prussian Tribunal ". In connection with this, he held the court office of "Chancellor of the Kingdom of Prussia" from 1857, which was also connected to a seat in the manor house. However, Zander was already a member of the manor house beforehand - as he had been called for life by the special trust of the king. As such, he was appointed crown syndic in 1857 .

From 1835 to 1837 he was also director of the judicial deputation in matters of the General Commission and in 1838 director of the associated revision board.

He was also politically active from 1850 to 1854 as a member of the First Chamber.
