Friedrich of Mecklenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich , Duke of Mecklenburg [-Schwerin], sometimes wrongly: Friedrich I , called Prince von Grabow (born February 13, 1638 in Schwerin , † April 28, 1688 in Grabow ) was an apanaged prince in Grabow.

Under the company name Der Füglich he was accepted as a member of the Fruitful Society .

Life

Friedrich was the son (10th child) of Duke Adolf Friedrich I and his second wife Marie Katharina (1616–1665), daughter of Duke Julius Ernst von Braunschweig-Dannenberg (1571–1636).

Due to his late birth he never came to reign himself and remained an apanaged prince. Due to the death of his childless brother, however, his three sons became successively ruling dukes of Mecklenburg [-Schwerin]. Friedrich became Canon of Strasbourg in 1667 and resided in Grabow as early as 1669. Friedrich was buried in the Schelfkirche St. Nikolai in Schwerin after the fire in the Grabow castle on June 3, 1725 , after he had originally been buried in the crypt of the Grabow castle.

Marriage and offspring

He was married to Christine Wilhelmine von Hessen-Homburg (born June 30, 1653 in Bingenheim, † May 16, 1722 in Grabow), the daughter of Wilhelm Christoph von Hessen-Homburg , since May 28, 1671 , and had four longer with her living children:
