Friedrich zu Solms-Rödelheim (treasurer)
Friedrich Graf zu Solms-Rödelheim (born November 30, 1574 ; † 1649 ) was an Imperial Chamberlain, Council of War and Colonel during the Thirty Years' War .
biography
He founded the Solms-Rödelheim line , which ruled the county of Solms-Rödelheim . His parents were Johann Georg I. zu Solms (born November 26, 1546 - August 19, 1600) from the Laubach line and his wife Margarete von Schönburg-Glauchau (* 1554 - June 29, 1606), the widow of Count Wilhelm II. Von Honstein-Vierraden (1500–1570). When the inheritance was divided up after the death of his father in 1607, he was given a territory consisting of the Rödelheim office, which was henceforth named, and the offices of Plettenheim and Assenheim .
He became a career officer. At that time, they often operated as mercenary leaders on behalf of princes or cities on their own account. For the first time he is proven as a participant in the Battle of Nieuwpoort on July 2, 1600 on the Dutch side under Moritz von Orange , who won against the Spaniards under Hereditary Duke Albrecht VII of Austria .
In 1608 he was taken into service as a colonel by several Hanseatic cities and, as part of this activity, also supervised the fortress builder Johan van Valckenburgh from the Netherlands, who were jointly employed by them .
In 1610 he became governor of the city of Düren in the Duchy of Jülich . He conquered the cities of Schleiden , Gut Kalkofen and Bredeburg .
In 1615 he commanded the troops made available by the Hanseatic League of the city of Braunschweig in their fight against Duke Friedrich Ulrich and on October 14, 1615 blew up the siege ring around the city of Braunschweig.
After the death of Margrave Joachim Ernst von Ansbach , he supported his widow Sophie von Solms-Laubach in the reign of her son Friedrich until the age of majority and until his successor and brother Albrecht came of age on May 26, 1639.
He was married to Anna Maria von Hohen-Geroldseck . The marriage remained childless.
