Fried Mars bars
Deep-fried Mars bar ( battered mars bars , deep fried mars bars ) are baked out, in batter -turned Mars candy bar . This type of preparation has been known mainly from fish-and-chip snacks in western Scotland and Australia since the mid-1990s .
According to a 2004 study, of the 303 Scottish fish-and-chip takeaways included, 66 (22%) sell deep-fried Mars bars.
According to VICE, the bar promoted Scotland's negative image. Even in the canteen of the Scottish Parliament, a baked version is said to have been offered as an exception. But many snack bars would no longer offer the dish at all.
Manufacturing
A deep-fried Mars bar is made by dipping a commercially available Mars bar into the batter, which is otherwise used to prepare fish and chips. The bars are also baked in the same deep fryer as the fish (and, depending on the range at the food stand, also the French fries , black and white pudding , sausages or haggis ). Overheating during the deep-frying process can melt the bar and contaminate the fat, which is why the bars used are often frozen beforehand. However, this creates the risk of the Mars bar cracking when it is immersed in the frying fat.
Mars fried bars are now also available in England and Ireland . In Canada , this dish is served with ice cream. At vacation spots with a large British audience, e.g. B. in some places in Spain , the fried Mars bar is served as a dessert .
In addition to Mars bars in their various variations, the catering establishments described here also have other baked chocolate bars , e.g. B. Snickers and Bounty , on the menu.
