Fritz Berger (painter)

Fritz Berger (born June 26, 1916 in Innsbruck , † 2002 ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Fritz Berger attended the Federal Trade School in Innsbruck and studied from 1937 to 1944 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Karl Sterrer . During World War II he lost his right arm and right eye.

After the war he worked as a set designer, illustrator and painter. In 1948 he took part in the Jeunes peintres tyroliens d'avantgarde exhibition organized by the French Cultural Institute . For many years he was in charge of the gallery at the Grillhof in Vill and led numerous adult education courses. Berger was artistically active in a variety of ways and created portraits, posters, illustrations, caricatures and stage sets as well as designs for tapestries and pottery. He designed numerous murals using fresco , germ color and sgraffito technology as well as ceramic panels, especially on public buildings as part of the Tyrolean art-in-building campaign in the post-war period.

His son is the cameraman Christian Berger .
