Fritz Frenkler

Friedrich-Konrad (Fritz) Frenkler (born May 11, 1954 in Stade ) is a German designer and professor of industrial design at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Fritz Frenkler graduated from the technical high school in Wolfsburg in 1974 . He then studied economics at the TU Berlin , industrial design at the HBK Braunschweig , and, after the preliminary diploma examination in industrial design in April 1980, perceptual psychology at the TU Braunschweig . At the HBK he was a student representative until his diploma examination, worked as an assistant teacher and artistic-scientific assistant in the industrial design course , and during this time gained professional experience as a freelancer for several design offices. In April 1983 he obtained a diploma in industrial design from the HBK Braunschweig. The topic of his diploma thesis was computer-aided design in industrial design.

From 1983 to 1986 he worked at frogdesign in Altensteig and Cambell / USA a. a. worked for the companies AEG , Louis Vuitton , Apple and Sony . From May 1986 to December 1988 he was General Manager of frogdesign Japan and was responsible for setting up and managing the company office in Tokyo and was appointed President of frogdesign Asia at the beginning of 1989 . In this function, he built up another company branch in Taipei , Taiwan and managed both the Tokyo and Taipeh offices. a. Olympus , BASF , Epson , Matsushita , Samsung , Toyota and Yamaha were among them.

In January 1992 Fritz Frenkler was commissioned to set up an international design team for the Wiege Wilkhahn Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH in Bad Münder . Until March 1999 he was managing director of wiege Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH u. a. worked for Deutsche Telekom , EXPO 2000 , PlanObject, Sony and Volkswagen AG .

As managing director of Deutsche Bahn Medien GmbH (DBM), Fritz Frenkler was chief designer at Deutsche Bahn AG between April 1999 and July 2001 and was therefore responsible for brand management and corporate design , which includes the areas of communication design and product design . Since August 2001 he has been the managing partner of f / p design GmbH and since 2005 Professor HC at the HSK Braunschweig.

In 2006 Fritz Frenkler was appointed full professor to the chair for industrial design at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

Memberships

Fritz Frenkler was and is a member of numerous design and design-related organizations, e.g. B. Desinglabors and DW - Design for the World - an organization that he himself co-founded, the Kunstverein Hannover , and the Kestner Society . He is Regional Advisor to the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and the International Forum Design . Frenkler was elected as a new member of the architecture section at the spring general meeting of the Berlin Academy of the Arts on May 25, 2013.

Honors and work

Fritz Frenkler has received numerous awards over the course of his career.
