In 1927 Gersbach was elected as the association conductor of the cantonal choir association. In the same year, on the occasion of the cantonal singing festival, his festival "Stadt und Land" premiered with great success in the Basel exhibition hall . In 1932 his opera "Merlin" was premiered at the Basel Theater . His further compositional work included choral and solo vocal works, piano pieces, violin sonatas , string quartets and orchestral works.

Gersbach's grave is in the Hörnli cemetery on the outskirts of Basel. His estate was given to the Basel University Library .
