Fritz Hesse (physician)

Fritz (also Friedrich Georg ) Hesse (born July 19, 1897 in Leipzig ; † December 26, 1980 in Mainz ) was a German physician and medical director.

Hesse was a son of the dentist Friedrich Louis Hesse . His first job after completing his doctorate began in 1924 with Erwin Payr at the Surgical University Clinic in Leipzig . In 1931 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig, where he worked with Rudolf Schoen . From 1934 to 1939 Hesse worked as chief physician at the Bethanien Hospital in Schweidnitz . As a professor of surgery in Saarbrücken , he then headed the surgical clinic of the municipal hospital in Saarbrücken . One focus of his medical interest was anesthesia, which at that time was not yet performed by specialists. In 1953, Hesse was one of the founding members of the German Society for Anesthesia .

Hesse was Luz Long's uncle .
