career

Player, until 1957

The former goalkeeper from VfR Schweinfurt 07 joined local rivals FC Schweinfurt 05 for the debut season of the Oberliga Süd, 1945/46 , after the end of World War II . The zero five from the industrial city of Lower Franconia took seventh place. Käser played alongside the then top performers Andreas Kupfer , Albin Kitzinger , Jakob Lotz , Paul Gorski , Karl and Molli Kupfer. The later record player of the zero fives, Ludwig Merz , was one of Fritz Käser's team-mates from the start of the Oberliga Süd. In the second league season, 1946/47, ex-national player Robert Bernard came from VfR to FC.

The defense developed over the years to become the masterpiece of FC 05. In the World Cup system at that time, the goalkeepers, the defenders and the runners were primarily responsible for the defensive work. Käser was an objective goalkeeper with good positional play and the gift of being able to organize the defense. The tactic was part of his goalkeeping game.

In the early years of the Oberliga Süd, the defensive game in Schweinfurt was among the best in the league. In their debut year, the zero five were the third best, in 1947 the second best, in 1948 the fourth best and in 1950 together with FSV Frankfurt the defense with the fewest goals. Even in the successful round of 1954/55 when Schweinfurt took third place, the 44 goals conceded were the third few in the league. If Schweinfurt was conceded excessively, the placement was accordingly: in the 1951/52 season there were 56 goals conceded and the zero fives were in 14th place; last year as an active player, 1956/57, the opponents scored 68 goals against the Schweinfurt defense and the FC finished the round in 12th place.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper completed another 13 games in the first half of the 1956/57 season and ended his playing in the Oberliga Süd with the 4-0 home game against Karlsruher SC on December 9, 1956. The KSC attack with Oswald Traub , Kurt Sommerlatt , Antoine Kohn (four-time goalscorer), Heinz Beck and Bernhard Termath could not be stopped on that day by Käser and the supporters of defense chief Ludwig Merz. After the end of the first half of the season, Schweinfurt finished in 15th place with 9:21 points. In the second half of the season Willi Geyer was in goal. The third goalkeeper, Ernst Scheurer , came on the final day, May 19, 1957, at the away game in Karlsruhe for his only round assignment. The eleven from the Wildparkstadion prevailed 8: 1.

After twelve rounds in the first-class Oberliga Süd, Fritz Käser ended his playing career after the round in 1956/57 with 278 league appearances for Schweinfurt 05. The transition to the coaching job followed seamlessly, he took over the training with the zero fives for the 1957/58 season.

Trainer

Käser coached FC Schweinfurt 05 in the Oberliga Süd from 1957 to 1960 and in the last year of the old first-class league, 1962/63 , as well as in the first two years of the new Regional Football League South - 1963/64 and 1964/65.

In his first coaching season, the squad from the previous season, where he was still a player, was available to him. The two Hungarian newcomers Sandor Turi and Istvan Nemeth played no role in the course of the round. Käser decided on Ernst Scheurer when it came to the goalkeeper and started his coaching career on August 11, 1957 with a 3-2 home win against VfB Stuttgart. Only with right winger Turi he had not previously played together in the Oberliga Süd. At the end of the round, he finished eighth with his team with 51:48 goals. In the following two rounds, the squad was only supplemented financially and athletically to a very modest extent. Goalkeeper Günter Bernard and center forward Rolf Schweighöfer made their first steps in the Oberliga Süd from their own ranks . In the last year of the old first-class league system, 1962/63, Käser reached eleventh place with Schweinfurt. Now Rolf Kupfer, the son of club legend Andreas Kupfer, Gerd Brunnhuber , Helmut Kraus and Günther Masurek were also on the team.

The first two rounds in the then second-rate Regionalliga Süd, 1963 to 1965, Käser continued his work as a coach at Schweinfurt 05 before retiring from contract football.

In the Association of German Football Teachers (BDFL), Käser was chairman of the Association Group South from 1972 to 1978.
