Fritz Reuter (geologist)

Fritz Hermann Gottfried Reuter (born May 15, 1925 in Tarthun ; † April 23, 1994 ) was a German geologist and university professor.

Life

Reuter graduated from high school in Egeln in 1943 and was then called up for military service. He spent the period from 1945 to 1947 in captivity, after which he worked in various mines. In 1948 he joined the SED and began studying geology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1953 he obtained his diploma and took up a position at the geological service in Halle . In 1956 he became deputy head, in 1958 he took over the management of the Jena geological service . In the same year he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD. From 1960 to 1967 he led the engineering geology working group of the Central Geological Institute of the GDR. At the same time he headed the GDR delegation of a working group of the Comecon to develop standards and classifications for engineering geological mapping.

In 1967 Fritz Reuter went to the Bergakademie Freiberg . On September 1, 1969, he was appointed full professor of engineering geology . In 1978 he completed his doctorate B to Dr. sc. nat., he retired in 1990.

Fritz Reuter died in 1994. His grave is on Donatsfriedhof in Freiberg . In 1995 he was posthumously honored with the Karl Heinrich Heitfeld Prize .
