Fritz Strauss or even Fritz Peter Strauss (* 2. December 1903 in Freiburg , † 13. December 1948 ) was a master tailor and briefly Acting in 1945 District Administrator of the district Karlsruhe and Mayor of Ettlingen .

Live and act

Strauss was born on December 2, 1903 in Freiburg, the son of the businessman Simon Strauss and Anna, née Maier. Strauss and his family were of Jewish faith . In 1919 he graduated from secondary school and began commercial training, which he broke off again. He married for the first time at the age of 23. The marriage, which resulted in a son, was divorced after a year. After training as a master tailor, he opened his own shop in Karlsruhe in 1933 . A short time later he fled to Paris and married Erika from Mannheim in 1934. After the Gestapo lured him back across the border to Germany, he was placed in protective custody in the Kislau concentration camp . After three months he was released after submitting a declaration of loyalty. Strauss was supposed to be deported on February 14, 1945 , but escaped deportation by hiding in the house of Ettlinger Robert Holtz in the forest colony until the end of the war.

In June 1945, Strauss replaced Anton Kaufmann as provisional district administrator for the district of Karlsruhe; Kaufmann was dismissed because of his membership in the NSDAP . In October 1945 Strauss was removed from office by the American military government because of the secret youth sentences he had committed around 1920, and Kaufmann was reinstated. On April 18, 1945 he became mayor of the city of Ettlingen, and until his death in 1948 there were frequent arguments with political opponents, also because opinions on denazification differed greatly.
