Life

Fritz Stüber, son of the writer Fritz Stüber-Gunther , graduated in 1929 with a degree in Law at the University of Vienna with the promotion of Dr. iur. from. During his studies he became a member of the Vandalia Vienna fraternity in 1923 (in 1962 he became a member of the Gothia Vienna fraternity ). After serving in court as a trainee lawyer until 1931, he worked for the district tax authorities in Baden near Vienna and Bruck an der Leitha as well as at the Vienna Financial Directorate. He also wrote volumes of poetry, including appraisals of Hitler, and joined the NSDAP in 1932 . In 1938 he left his unpopular civil service and became editor of the daily newspaper Neues Wiener Tagblatt . Until the end of the war he wrote perseverance articles and in the last days of the war he took up ground service with the air force.

On the list of literature to be sorted out published by the German Administration for National Education in the Soviet Occupation Zone in 1948 , Stüber appears with one work, on the list of banned authors and books published by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education in 1946 with all of his works. Stüber was arrested in 1948 and released by a people's court in February 1949 after three months of police arrest .

Stüber was co-founder and chairman of the Association of Independents in Vienna . After the party's first run for the National Council election in 1949 , he became a member of the National Council . Stüber was also editor-in-chief of the VdU weekly newspaper Der Independent . His party colleague Viktor Reimann later characterized him as follows: “He was the national bard on duty and an oppositionist out of passion. As a pronounced individualist, Stüber did not come from National Socialism, but from the circle of the Schönerians , who only felt at ease when the nationalists fell at each other's hair. ”For VdU chairman Herbert Alois Kraus , Stüber was“ addicted to the romantic national feeling Poet-journalist ”who runs“ Germanic enthusiasm ”. In 1953 he was excluded from the VdU because of "legal deviations". When the State Treaty was to be ratified on June 7, 1955, Stüber was the only one of 165 MPs to refuse to approve it, since in his opinion the victorious powers drove a wedge between Austria and the FRG. In order not to cause a scandal, he finally stayed away from the vote and the State Treaty was unanimously approved by the National Council, with 164 votes in favor and one absence. Stüber remained a member of parliament until the end of the 1956 legislative period.

From 1956 and until his death, Stüber was the editor of the Eckartbote magazine , which was published by the Austrian Landsmannschaft . The Eckartbote was loud DÖW characterized by revanchist and xenophobic content. For example, in issue 6/1992 the 50th anniversary of the death of "politician Reinhard Heydrich " was commemorated.

Stüber was involved in various relevant organizations: He was a co-founder of the Austrian Freedom Collection , head of the Austrian Landsmannschaft , and second president of the German Cultural Association of European Spirit . He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
