Fritz Stüber-Gunther
Fritz Stüber-Gunther (born March 22, 1872 in Gaudenzdorf , Vienna , † September 15, 1922 in Vienna) was an Austrian writer .
Life
Fritz Stüber-Gunther came from a family of civil servants. After attending St. Thekla-Gymnasium in Vienna IV, where he had become a member of the Gothia secondary school , he studied law in Vienna, where he was a member of the Teutonia fraternity from 1891 to 1901 . He entered the public service and became a tax officer, most recently director of the Court of Auditors. His humorous short stories first appeared in the feature pages of the Neue Wiener Tagblatt and the Volkszeitung , were very successful and were then also published in book form.
Fritz Stüber-Gunther is the father of the Austrian lawyer, journalist, author and politician Fritz Stüber .

Fritz Stüber-Gunther is considered the master of the Viennese sketch, in which he portrayed life in and around Vienna with irony and sarcasm. He also wrote poems and novels , such as Rappelkopf (about the writer Ferdinand Raimund ).
Awards and honors
- 1910: Bauernfeld Prize
- 1922: After he was initially buried in the Meidlinger Friedhof , he received an honorary grave from the City of Vienna on November 22, 1922 at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 0, row 1, number 95).
- 1924: On June 22nd, a memorial plaque was unveiled at the house where he was born in Arndtstrasse 82.
- 1926: By resolution of the municipal council committee on September 30, 1925, a street in Vienna's twelfth district ( Meidling ) was named after him ( Stüber-Gunther-Gasse ).
- 1926: His portrait medallion is on the Meidling artist memorial stone by Fritz Hänlein from 1926 in Theresienbadpark.
