Obituary in the NFP

Theodor Zasche (born October 18, 1862 in Vienna ; † November 15, 1922 there ) was an Austrian painter and caricaturist .

Life

Zasche was the son of the painter Josef Zasche (1821 in Gablonz - 1881 in Leipzig). He initially learned from his father and later studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Ferdinand Laufberger and Julius Victor Berger . After his father's death he continued his workshop for porcelain painting and also tried pastel painting.

Zasche worked as an illustrator for numerous magazines in Vienna ( Der Floh , Wiener Witzblatt and Wiener Luft , for which he worked after the death of Hans Schliessmann in 1920), Berlin ( Funny Leaves ) and Munich ( Fliegende Blätter ).

A good connoisseur of Viennese life and society, he worked for the Volkszeitung from 1910 and cultivated political satire there. In his pen and ink drawings, with just a few strokes, he achieved portrait fidelity with strong characteristics and humor. From March 24, 1892 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus .

On October 14, 1902, he is mentioned as a participant in a short flight of just under 2 hours with the "Jupiter" balloon, in which Herbert Silberer and Emile Carton also took part.

His grave of honor is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 15 E, Row 13, No. 2).
