Fulda Reifen (originally Gummiwerke Fulda) is a tire manufacturer .

The tire plant in Fulda is one of the six German locations within the Goodyear Dunlop Group . The tires are developed at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Colmar-Berg (Luxembourg). Fulda now concentrates almost exclusively on the replacement business with deliveries to tire retailers. The original equipment business is mainly operated in the truck and agricultural tire product segments.

Company history

The company was founded in 1900 by Gustav Becker and Moritz Hasenclever and built up as a manufacturer of technical rubber items in Fulda. In 1906 the company manufactured the first solid rubber tires. In 1909 the company was converted into a stock corporation, the Gummiwerke AG . The merger with the company Seiberling Rubber Co. Akron / Ohio was completed in 1927, and the company also produced pneumatic tires with tubes for the first time that year. Eight years later, in 1935, the company started making Buna tires. In addition, Vorwerk und Sohn took over the share capital of Gummiwerke Fulda .

During the Second World War , production was switched to a war economy . In an Allied bombing raid on September 11, 1944, the rubber works' production facilities were completely destroyed.

In August 1946 tires were being manufactured again in temporary buildings. In 1947 the company again employed 630 people and in early 1949 the full pre-war output was achieved again. In 1953 the company expanded its range of activities to include the manufacture of tubeless car tires. In 1962 it was finally taken over by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company . With the introduction of off-road tires with white letters, the company introduced a new product line in 1994. In 1997 the company sponsored the Yukon Quest for the first time and in 1999 a private weather service was installed with FULDAnet . On July 1, 2009, the sales company Fulda Reifen GmbH was transferred to Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany GmbH .
