Radio measuring sights are mostly partially automated, so that operational routines such as target selection, opening of fire or triggering of bombs can be carried out by the flight crew or the fighter pilot according to the mission order at their own end, or can be guided or supported by instruction CRC "Intercept Controller" . FMV could also be equipped with an optical sight, for example ASP-PF-21 (MiG-21), as well as a shooting camera (PAU-473, also MiG-21).

ITU classification and frequency availability

Radio measuring sights were part of the standard equipment of a whole series of combat aircraft of the NVA Air Force and the Group of the Soviet Armed Forces in Germany (GSSD). While the NVA warplanes were decommissioned in October 1990, with a few exceptions, the GSSD warplanes could continue to be used until August 1994 until they were returned to Russia.
