Furcraea antillana is a species of the genus Furcraea in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet antillana refers to the occurrence of the species in the Greater Antilles .

Furcraea antillana forms stems up to 50 centimeters long. There are no rhizomes . The 90 to 110 straight, narrowly lanceolate leaves are almost flat and slightly runny. They are slightly folded towards the top. Their stiff, leathery, often rough leaf blades are 90 to 120 centimeters long (rarely 60 to 200 centimeters) and 5 to 10 centimeters wide. It is light green to slightly yellowish and opaque. On the leaf margins there are triangular, straight or usually slightly knocked back teeth of 2 to 5 millimeters (rarely up to 7 millimeters) in length. They are chestnut brown to almost black and are located on triangular protrusions. The marginal teeth are 2 to 5 centimeters apart, at the base it is 0.4 to 2 centimeters apart. They are occasionally missing in the upper third of the leaves. The tip of the leaf is sharp and has no or an indistinctly attached tip.

The narrow spindle-shaped inflorescence reaches a height of 4 to 6 meters (rarely up to 8 meters). The 40 to 70 centimeters (rarely 20 to 90 centimeters) long partial inflorescences are ascending in the upper two thirds. They have narrow, spindle-shaped bulbils . There are two to three bell-shaped, pendent flowers 32 to 40 millimeters (rarely from 24 millimeters) in length together. Your flower stalk is 4 to 10 millimeters long. Their elliptical, whitish tepals are green on the outside. They have a length of 14 to 19 millimeters (rarely 12 to 27 millimeters) and are 5 to 8 millimeters wide. The stamens are 10 to 20 millimeters long. The triangular ovary has a length of 18 to 20 millimeters (rarely from 13 millimeters). The stylus is 10 to 20 millimeters long. The flowering period extends from July to September.

The elongated, beaked fruits reach a length of 2.5 to 5 centimeters and a width of 1.6 to 3 centimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Furcraea antillana is common in the Greater Antilles , Cuba , Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico in semi-deciduous forests or dry coastal bush.

The first description by Alberto Álvarez de Zayas was published in 1996.
