Fushë-Kuqja ( Albanian also Fushë-Kuqe ) is a place in Albania , which is in the municipality Kurbin in the Qark Lezha .
Until 2015 Fushë-Kuqja was an independent municipality consisting of the villages Fushë-Kuqja , Patok , Gorreja , Gurrëz and Adriatik . It had 5460 inhabitants (2011 census); the local authorities give a significantly higher number of 8,800 people (2012). The area of the municipality was 62 square kilometers.
Fushë-Kuqja lies on the flat coastal plain, the Mat River runs a little to the north , and the Adriatic coast further to the west . It is around eight kilometers to the city of Laç in the east. The Patok lagoon at the mouth of the Mat is a nature reserve that borders the town to the west. Today there are numerous restaurants there, some of which stand on stilts in the water.
The place is accessible by the Autostrada A1 ( SH 1 ), which runs a little to the east.
Fushë-Kuqja means the red field . The plain was the scene of a great battle between the Albanians and the Turks led by Skanderbeg in the 15th century . According to tradition, the earth was soaked with blood afterwards, which led to these names.
