Futsal Minerva is a Swiss futsal club from Bern . It was founded on June 1, 2010 by three students in Bern and is one of the futsal clubs in Switzerland with the largest number of spectators and members . Futsal Minerva is the most successful Swiss futsal club with four championship titles.

The club colors are blue / yellow. The club is a member of the Swiss Football Association (SFV) , the Bern / Jura Football Association (FVBJ) and the Mittelländischer Football Association (MFV). The guiding principle of the association is “Courage. Proud. Passion."

history

On the occasion of the European University Championships in Montenegro , Miro Prskalo, Fabio Santona and Patrick Lämmle first came into contact with the sport of futsal, which was previously unknown in Switzerland . After their return, they founded a futsal team within the FC Ostermundigen football club . In the summer of 2010, the futsal team was offered to join the Mobulu Futsal Uni Bern club . The offer was rejected and instead a new association with its own statutes was founded.

“The Futsal Minerva association is founded for the joint, professional practice of futsal (FIFA-recognized form of indoor football). […] So far, Futsal Minerva has been run under the statutes of FC Ostermundigen. In order to appear as an independent club in the National League A and to act independently, a corporation with its own legal personality is required. The association represents the best legal form in the present case as a corporation with an ideal purpose ”.

The founding meeting was held on June 1, 2010 in Bern. Miro Prskalo and Fabio Santona, who were also appointed to the board, are named as founding members in the minutes.

In 2010 Futsal Minerva took part in the National Futsal Championship National League A of the Swiss Football Association and was runner-up in 2011 . In the following two seasons, Futsal Minerva won the championship in the final against MNK Croatia 97 ( 2012 ) and Futsal Maniacs ( 2013 ). Minerva thus won the last championship of the National League A and the first of the Swiss Futsal Premier League , because a national league was introduced above the NLA for the 2012/13 season .

On August 8, 2012, Minerva celebrated their first official international match in the UEFA Futsal Cup . However, the Swiss lost 9: 4 against the hosts Allstars Wiener Neustadt. Due to the victory in the second game against the Irish representative EID Futsal (9: 6) there were still hopes for progress. But Minerva lost the last game against TUFAD Ankara 6: 5 and was eliminated. It got tighter the following season. Again Minerva competed in Austria. The two victories (6: 2 against Stella Rossa Vienna and 10: 0 against Üniveristesi Elazig) were not enough, however, as they lost 2-1 against Vegakameratene and thus finished second behind the Norwegians.

In 2014 they won the runner-up against the Uni Futsal Team Bulle. In 2015 , participation in the final round was missed for the first time.

In the 2015/16 season, after losing a six-meter shootout in the final against Futsal Maniacs, the season was again finished with a 2nd place. The coach Marcos Lopez announced his resignation as a result.

In 2017 , under the leadership of coach Pedro Santos and his assistant Ricardo Vicente, the championship was won again. Thus, Minerva rose to the sole record champion with the third title in the club's history. In the live broadcast game, FC Silva was defeated 5-2. This broadcast and the reporting on SRF Zwei led to increasing awareness of the sport and to the growth of the club.

Futsal Minerva qualified as the winner of the Swiss championship for the 2017/18 UEFA Futsal Cup and hosted Group A games in its own hall. With three wins against Lynx FC from Gibraltar (4: 1), FC Transylvania from Ireland (3: 2) and London Helvécia Futsal (4: 1), they qualified for the main round. With a win against Sievi FS from Finland (4: 3) as well as two defeats FP Halle Gooik from Belgium (0: 8) and SSV Jahn Regensburg (2: 4) the team was eliminated with a third place in group 7.

With the 2017/18 season , the regulations for the playoff games were changed. The semi-finals and finals were played in best-of-three mode . In the semifinals, the team was eliminated from La Chaux-de-Fonds against the newly promoted and eventual champions RCD Futsal.

For the 2018/19 season , the Portuguese Mamadú Turé and Dinis Ramos signed foreign players for the first time. Also in this season the playoff mode was abolished by the association. Now the place in the table decided on the championship at the end of the season. Minerva won 16 of the 18 games and became champions by six points. With this, the Bernese won their fourth championship title.

The 2019/20 season began with participation in the UEFA Futsal Champions League . In a very difficult group Minerva won the opening game against hosts AEK Athens 4-3 . The second game against the favorites Imperial Wet from Romania was lost 3: 6. So the last game against the Irish champions Blue Magic from Dublin was meaningless. The game ended 4-4. Minerva was eliminated as the second-placed team. In the league, Minerva started the preliminary round with two home defeats, but with seven wins in a row, the team increased and was in first place when the season ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic . The season was not rated, so no team was crowned champion. However, the Bernese had the best points / match coefficient and were authorized to represent Switzerland in the 2020/21 UEFA Futsal Champions League.
