Gábor Gellér (born September 13, 1958 in Budakeszi ) is a former Hungarian ski jumper .
Career
Gellér belongs to one of the most famous Hungarian families of athletes and, like his 14 years older brother László Gellér, started ski jumping at Budakeszi Petőfi SC at an early age and quickly achieved initial successes in junior competitions. After switching to the professionals of the Budapest Honvéd, he won both national titles in the individual on the normal and the large hill as well as with the team on the large hill for the first time in 1977. The following year he won the title in the team competition on the normal hill. His first international competition was also his most successful. At the Four Hills Tournament 1978/79 he landed in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze on rank 52, before jumping to 50th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . This was followed by a 55th place on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck and a 66th place in Bischofshofen . He finished the tour with 560.8 points in 51st place in the tour's overall ranking.
After three more national titles in 1979, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup in December 1979 as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1979/80 . However, he did not make it into the top of the world. Due to the lack of a ski jumping World Cup team in Hungary, the starts at the Four Hills Tournament were the only international tournaments until the end of his career.
1980 Gellér improved the Hungarian record of distance to 139 meters. This record is still in place today, as no Hungarian has jumped further in international jumping.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tyrol , Gellér started in both individual disciplines. He reached rank 38 in jumping on the normal hill and rank 53 on the large hill.
After he did not achieve any success in the Four Hills Tournament until 1989 , he ended his active ski jumping career after the 1988/89 tour. His last national title was also two years ago at the time. In 1989 he only won bronze again.
