The Gówniak is a 1617 meter high mountain in Poland in the Saybuscher Beskids . Its name comes from the fact that in ancient times cattle were grazed on its slopes, which left their excrement there.

The summit is on Polish territory. In the past, the mountain was a border mountain, between Galicia and Hungary ( Orava ) until 1918 and between Germany and Slovakia between 1939 and 1944 . The letters D and S can therefore still be seen on the old boundary stones.

The slopes are overgrown with mountain pines . A wide panoramic view opens up from the rocky summit.

location

The mountain is located in the Babia Góra National Park . The main European watershed between the Black Sea ( Danube ) and the Baltic Sea ( Vistula ) runs over the mountain . Several hiking trails lead up the mountain, including the Beskydy main hiking trail .
