Göran Christer Åberg (born January 25, 1948 in Solna , † August 23, 2001 ) was a Swedish football player and coach.
career
Åberg started playing football at IF Brommapojkarna . In 1960 he moved to the youth department of the traditional AIK club . On September 22, 1966 he made his debut in the 1-0 win over Djurgårdens IF in the home Råsundastadion in the Allsvenskan . However, it took until the 1970 season before he could establish himself permanently in the team and fight for a regular place. Until the 1972 season , which ended as runner-up with one point behind master Åtvidabergs FF , he was in at least 20 of the 22 season games on the field.
After a knee injury Åberg missed the entire 1973 season , the following year he again completed 25 of 26 season games and was again able to celebrate the runner-up behind Malmö FF . In the 1975 season he could only appear three times in the league due to injury. Two more years followed, during which he was regularly on the pitch in defense.
In 1978 Åberg moved to the lower class Spånga IS at the end of his career , where he ran up until 1981. He then sat on the club's bench as an assistant coach for two years. This was followed by a commitment at Hagalunds IS from 1984 to 1985 before he returned to AIK in 1986 as an assistant coach. After initially working under Rolf Zetterlund and in the following season under the later short-term Swedish national coach Nils Andersson , he decided to work as a full-time coach again from 1988. Until 1996 he worked for the amateur clubs Vallentuna BK , Riala IF and Brottby IF .
