Gültekin Kaan (actually Gültekin Kaan Kaynak ; * in the 20th century in Backnang ) is a German rock musician , singer, composer, lyricist and poet of Turkish descent. A large part of his backing band diVan lives in Saarland .

Life

Kaan worked with Smokie , Erkin Koray , Cem Karaca and Bahadır Akkuzu from Kurtalan Ekspres . He was a songwriter and producer for German and Turkish acts as well as co-owner of a recording studio. He has published three volumes of poetry and is an author of children's books. Kaan has been giving concerts throughout Europe and Turkey with his band diVan since 1998. After his album 1001 divan was released in Turkey via Sony Music , his album Sofra was released worldwide on July 27, 2012 by Blue Flame ( Rough Trade ).

Music genre

Kaan calls his music "Oriental World Rock". It is a mixture of Turkish folk music and art music with western sounds. The texts are fairytale-like poetry in the Turkish language, based on the fairy tales from the Arabian Nights . In Turkey this type of music is considered Anadolu Rock and in Germany it is more like world music .

Trivia

A program on Korean radio caused a particular stir. The well-known radio presenter and comedian Yoo Se-yoon gave a humorous review of the video of the song Perilerin Oyunu on the Sofra album, thereby helping Kaan to gain an enormous fan base in Korea.
