Günter Duffrer

Günter Duffrer (born July 13, 1922 in Bingen ; † October 20, 2011 in Mainz ) was Domprabendat, professor for pastoral liturgy and author of books on church topics.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1940, Duffrer studied Catholic theology in Mainz and attended the Mainz seminary for two years before he was drafted into military service in 1942. After returning home, immediately after the war, he began studying theology at the University of Mainz, which was re-established by the French administration (→ Raymond Schmittlein ) . On July 25, 1948, Duffrer was ordained a priest by Bishop Albert Stohr in Mainz Cathedral . His first chaplain positions were in Oppenheim and Bad Nauheim. In 1953, Stohr appointed him as episcopal secretary, which he remained until 1958.

He completed a study visit to the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1961 with a doctorate in theology. He did his doctorate on the pastoral liturgical endeavors of the Mainz Regens Markus Adam Nickel in Mainz in the 19th century with On the Way to Liturgical Piety .

From 1962 to 1976 he was a lecturer for homiletics and rubricistics and at the same time took on the role of spiritual in the mother house of the Sisters of Divine Providence (Mainz) in Mainz. Since 1964 he has been a lecturer in pastoral liturgy at the episcopal seminar for parish pastoral care and religious education (later specialist academy) in Mainz and since 1972 taught pastoral liturgy at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz . He did so until he was released in 1988.

Günter Duffrer worked for more than a decade at the Institute for Church Music in Mainz as a clerical adviser and lecturer in liturgy. Together with Heinrich Rohr he trained many cantors. He was only released from his duties as diocesan president of the church choirs in the diocese of Mainz in October 1997.
