Markus Adam Nickel

Markus Adam Nickel (born June 9, 1800 in Mainz ; † October 31, 1869 there ) was a German Catholic theologian .

After completing his studies and seminary in Mainz, he was ordained priest in 1823. In 1830, Nickel was appointed professor of theology and spiritual director at the Mainz seminary. The time before was marked by the Mainz district and the vacancy on the Mainz bishop's chair (→ History of the Diocese of Mainz ).

In 1833 he was appointed pastor of the cathedral. In the year of his consecration in 1835, the Mainz bishop Peter Leopold Kaiser appointed him to the seminary regens and spiritual council . In 1851, Nickel was elected cathedral chapter by the Mainz cathedral chapter and taught homiletics and liturgy at the seminary almost until the end of his life .

Works

In his will, Markus Adam Nickel bequeathed many homiletic, hymnological and liturgical works to the Martinus Library . His main works are:

  • The holy times and feasts according to their history and celebration in the church , 1836. New edition 1863. 6 volumes.
  • The new Testament. Purpose, plan and dissection of all individual books , 1846, 3 of 4 volumes on Google Books
  • The evangelical pericopes, edited exegetically and homiletically , 1847–54, 18 volumes
  • Together with Joseph Kehrein he published: Eloquence of the Church Fathers according to Jos. Weissenbach , 1844, 4 volumes
  • Summa of the mystical theology, or: the godly Thomas von Kempis four books on the following of Christ; systematically arranged according to the three paths: purification, enlightenment and unification, Mainz 1851 Google Books
