Wolfgang Schwarz (born May 15, 1916 in Tarnowitz / Upper Silesia ; † January 31, 2012 in Landau in the Palatinate ) was a German writer. He was a poet, playwright, translator and editor of various anthologies . He lived and worked in Landau in the Palatinate.

biography

Wolfgang Schwarz studied German, archeology and philosophy in Munich and Breslau and completed his studies with a doctorate on the myth of the youthfulness in German poetry (1940). He then became a dramaturge at the Silesian Radio . During the Second World War he was Rittmeister in the Cossack cavalry corps of Helmuth von Pannwitz . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Soviets and did not return from Siberia until October 1953 . From 1954 to 1958 he worked as a lecturer for German studies at the Pädagogische Akademie Landau in der Pfalz , now part of the University of Koblenz-Landau . He was a member of the Eßlingen Artists' Guild and the East German Cultural Council in Bonn as well as the Palatinate Literary Association .

Wolfgang Schwarz has been awarded and honored with numerous prizes: Schiller Prize (1954), Goethe Ring (1954), Thomas Mann Prize (1955), Friedland Prize for those returning home (1960), the Palatinate Literary Prize (1960), Scholarship from Villa Massimo (1962), honorary award of the Andreas Gryphius Prize (1963), Hermann Sinsheimer Prize (1983).
