Günter Gawlick

Günter Gawlick (born March 1, 1930 in Königsberg / Prussia ) is a German philosopher and historian of philosophy and professor emeritus of philosophy .

Gawlick studied philosophy, Latin and English from 1950 to 1956 in Kiel , Manchester and Freiburg . In 1956 he received his doctorate in Kiel and habilitated in Gießen in 1963 . He moved to Bochum with Hans Blumenberg as a research assistant , where he was full professor of philosophy from 1969. In 1992 he was retired there.

His students include Hans-Ulrich Hoche , Lothar Kreimendahl , Wolfgang Leidhold , Winfried Schröder and Werner Strube.

Gawlick worked in the field of ancient philosophy on the philosophical writings of Cicero and their history of reception, in the field of modern philosophy on the Enlightenment , skepticism , empiricism and deism ( Christian Wolff , Alexander Gottlieb Baumgarten , David Hume , Thomas Hobbes , Baruch de Spinoza and others ) taking into account the history of reception.
