Günter Hauser

Günter Hauser (* 1928 in Pforzheim ; † 1981 at Osorno ) was a German mountaineer , expedition leader , mountain writer and entrepreneur.

Mountaineering activities

Hauser was active in the Africa Association of German Business , Hamburg and in the German Alpine Association (DAV), Munich. As the youngest member, he took part in the 1954 expedition to Broad Peak (formerly known as K 3 ) in the Karakoram . Just three years later, he led an expedition to the Andes , the section Schwaben performed. Twelve first ascents were made there, including that of Alpamayo on June 19, 1957. In 1965, Hauser carried out the first German expedition to Nepal after the Second World War , in which all participants (eight Germans and three Sherpas) climbed the summit of the 7,455 meter high Gangapurna in the Annapurna region achieved. In his book Eisgipfel und Goldpagoden - Expedition to the Kingdom of Nepal , he particularly praised the work of the local helpers, described the encounters with the local people and the cultural sites. Thanks to his commitment to Nepal, which was hardly known at the time, Hauser was appointed Royal Nepalese Consul in Bavaria.

During an exploration trip in 1981 in Chile, Günter Hauser had a fatal accident on the Chilean volcano Osorno .

Economic activity

In 1973 Hauser realized his vision of making foreign countries and their people accessible to non-mountaineers, but also to landscape, culture and, above all, hiking enthusiasts with the establishment of the company Hauser Exkursionen, whose first program consisted of six leaflets with five routes in four countries duration. In 2007, the company carried out excursions on 360 routes in 90 countries with 120 tour guides . According to its own information, the company is the largest German-speaking provider in this market segment even before the DAV Summit Club .
