Günter Hortzschansky

Günter Hortzschansky (born February 20, 1926 in Berlin ; † October 11, 2015 there ) was a German historian .

Günter Hortzschansky studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1946 to 1949 . In 1949 he passed the state examination. From 1949 to 1951 he was a consultant at the “House of the Child” on Strausberger Platz in Berlin. From 1951 to 1956 he held a scientific degree or was a research assistant at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED (IfG) . In 1958 he received his doctorate with the thesis The national treason of the German monopoly rulers during the Ruhr War in 1923 . From 1962 to 1969 he was deputy head of the Department of History of the German Labor Movement from the Beginnings to 1945 at the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED (IML) from 1969 to 1989 . Since 1966 he was a professor with a teaching position for the history of the German labor movement at the IML. From 1970 to 1975 he was a member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR . Hortzschansky was particularly concerned with the communist politician Ernst Thälmann .

He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Silver (1966), the National Prize of the GDR , First Class (1979) and the Labor Banner , Level I (1986) for his achievements . Hortzschansky was married to the daughter of the executed resistance fighter Judith Auer and the KPD functionary Erich Auer .
