Günter Klambauer (* 1982 in Gallneukirchen , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian bioinformatician and judoka .

Life

After attending the humanistic grammar school Petrinum , Günter Klambauer studied mathematics and biology at the University of Vienna . He did his doctorate with Sepp Hochreiter at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in the field of bioinformatics.

The main research focus of his work is the use of machine learning techniques for data analysis in molecular biology . For his research he received the Austrian Life Science Award and the Award of Excellence from the BMWFW . He developed the best method for predicting the toxicity of chemical compounds in the National Institutes of Health's international Tox21 Data Challenge . In 2017 he developed self-normalizing neural networks that improve the learning dynamics of artificial neural networks. An AI he developed beat three human experts in localizing proteins in cells.

In 2012 and 2013 he was one of the 15 best judokas in the Austrian 2nd Bundesliga of the Austrian Judo Association . In 2014 he won the gold medal at the 35th World Medical and Health Games .
