Günter Ludyk

Günter Paul Alois Ludyk (born January 1, 1932 in Berlin ; † February 6, 2020 in Bremen ) was a German university professor who primarily dealt with the mathematical investigation of problems in physics and engineering.

Family, education and work

Ludyk was the son of the technical employee Paul Ludyk from Upper Silesia and Martha Ludyk, geb. Plohmann, from East Prussia. In 1950 Ludyk was Berlin youth champion in the 100 m run and vice youth champion in the long jump. He was with Renate Ludyk, geb. Reuter, married and has one daughter.

From 1942, due to the Second World War, Ludyk attended high schools and grammar schools in six different places until he was able to do his Abitur at the Diesterweg High School in Berlin-Wedding in 1951. He then began studying electrical engineering (specializing in communications engineering) at the Technical University of Berlin , which he completed in 1958 as a graduate engineer.

After having been a consulting and development engineer in the industrial plant department of AEG in Berlin for five years, Ludyk returned to the TU Berlin as a senior engineer (senior assistant) at the Institute for General Electrical Engineering. 1967 Ludyk was with the dissertation time Optimal scanning systems with limitation of the manipulated variable doctorate . 1970 followed his habilitation thesis Zeitoptimale diskrete Systeme , whereupon Ludyk was appointed Scientific Councilor and Professor at the TU Berlin. After a one-semester stay as a visiting professor at the Graz University of Technology , he finally took over the position of full professor for control engineering at the University of Bremen . In 1997 he was retired.

Other areas of work

In his retirement, Ludyk applies his mathematical knowledge, in particular matrix calculation , to problems in theoretical physics. This resulted in a book on Einstein's Special and General Theory of Relativity , with the essential results using matrices alone, i.e. i.e., without the use of tensors . Then a book on quantum mechanics was written , in which the matrix calculation now took the place of the usual Schrödinger differential equations

In addition to the time-invariant, Ludyk dealt with the time-variant discrete-time systems, especially with their controllability and observability, their stability and their canonical forms.

In addition, Ludyk dealt intensively with the methods of interval arithmetic using special computer arithmetics . With the help of containment methods, highly precise solutions for a large number of system-technical problems were achieved. The algorithms developed deliver the solutions in the form of intervals, guaranteeing that they contain the exact solution.
