Günter Menges (born February 11, 1954 ) is a former German soccer player .

career

The trained insurance salesman and amateur soccer player Günter Menges came from VfB Eberbach to Bundesliga club 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1977 from the Odenwald in Baden . Coach Erich Ribbeck brought Menges to the Bundesliga for the first time on August 27, 1977 . He switched him to the away game against Hamburger SV for midfielder Johannes Riedl . The 1.83 m tall defender and midfielder was used by Ribbeck in another 10 Bundesliga games in the 1977/78 season. When the "Red Devils" from Betzenberg under the new coach Karlheinz Feldkamp reached third place in the following round in 1978/79, Menges only added one substitute. He accepted the offer of the Bundesliga relegated SV Darmstadt 98 and moved to the stadium at Böllenfalltor .

In the second division he came in 1979/80 under coach Jörg Berger at the side of the teammates Walter Bechtold , Jürgen Kalb , Dieter Rudolf and Gerhard Kleppinger on 17 missions with one goal and reached fourth place in the table with the "Lilien". Darmstadt won the second division championship title in 1980/81 and was able to celebrate the return to the Bundesliga. Under coach Werner Olk , however, he only made twelve appearances that season. With the game on May 10, 1981 against SV Waldhof, Günter Menges said goodbye to professional football.
