Günter Mieth (theologian)

Günter Mieth (born August 28, 1929 in Leipzig ; † March 28, 2018 in Detmold ) was a German Protestant pastor , superintendent and honorary citizen of the city of Zwickau .

Life

Mieth met his future wife Margarete in Erlangen in 1951 , with whom he moved to the GDR three years later because they felt they were “needed there”. After completing his theology studies , he was ordained in Flöha in 1956 and worked there as a pastor. In 1959 he moved to Lengefeld and in 1964 to the Trinitatiskirche in Dresden-Johannstadt . In 1970 he became superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran church district of Zwickau . In 1989, during the peaceful revolution , he made sure that prayers for peace took place in almost all churches . He was one of the threeModerators of the round table in Zwickau, which also opened this form of dialogue on December 19, 1989 in the Zwickau cathedral parish hall. He was also a co-founder of the Zwickau city ​​mission . After he retired on September 1, 1994, he moved to Detmold. In 2000 he became an honorary citizen of Zwickau.

Günter and Margarete Mieth had three daughters.
