Life

After training as a steel casting former in Hennigsdorf , he joined the "Soloists' Association of Berlin Radio " in 1962 through several choirs . He received his first engagement as a soloist in 1965 at the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam (as Boccaccio von Suppè , in Die Bernauerin by Carl Orff and Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail ). After passing the state soloist examination in 1966, he moved to the German National Theater in Weimar from 1967 to 1969 . In 1969 Neumann was engaged by Walter Felsenstein at the Komische Oper Berlin , to whose ensemble he still belongs to this day. Guest contracts have taken him to Hamburg, Cologne, Vienna, Dresden, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Prague and Budapest, among others.

Like few other tenors, the Berliner comes close to the ideals of a “singing actor” with a constant love of play and unconditional commitment. He has a special timbre in the head voice and is equally good at singing “properly” in operettas , baroque operas , Mozart operas, as well as Wagner and Strauss parts.

Neumann is a chamber singer and winner of the GDR National Prize .
