Günter Rausch (born March 9, 1952 in Lohr am Main , Bavaria ) is a German social work scientist at the Evangelical University of Freiburg . In Freiburg im Breisgau he is politically active in citizens' initiatives .

Life and work

Günter Rausch grew up in Lohr am Main in Franconia. Until 1966 he attended elementary school. He then completed an apprenticeship in local government. After six years working in local government, he moved to Freiburg im Breisgau to study in 1974. In Freiburg, he first studied social work at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Freiburg and, from 1989, educational science and communication science at the Freiburg University of Education . While still a student, he started working as a community worker in Freiburg in 1979. He completed his studies in 1992 as a qualified teacher with a focus on adult education. In 1998 he received his doctorate for a thesis on community work in the Weingarten high-rise housing estate in Freiburg as an educational scientist (Dr. ped.). Since 1998 he has been a professor of community work and social management . He taught at the Evangelical University of Freiburg , from which he retired on February 28, 2018.

Volunteering and political career

He was and is volunteer in a wide variety of areas. In his youth he was an altar boy and active in the church youth and apprentice movement. In the context of the 1968 movement and the student protests of the 1970s, he was temporarily a member of the DKP . Later he was active in the resistance against the planned Wyhl nuclear power plant and as a works council chairman and trade unionist , as well as in the civil , environmental and peace movement .

In 1975 he became a member of the ÖTV trade union . Here he was initially a shop steward and between 1980 and 1989 chairman of the works council. Today he is a member of the ver.di trade union and a liaison professor at the Hans Böckler Foundation .

Between 1984 and 1987 Günter Rausch was chairman of the tenants' advisory board of Freiburger Stadtbau GmbH . In 1987 he was a co-founder of the Forum Weingarten 2000 district association .

In 2006 he was part of the Freiburg citizens' initiative Housing is human rights significantly involved in the success of a referendum against the sale of the urban housing stock to a private investor.

When the mayor of Freiburg was elected in 2010, Rausch stood as a candidate for the “ Wechsel” initiative in the town hall and took third place with 20.1% of the votes.
