Freiburg-Weingarten

Weingarten is a district of Freiburg im Breisgau . In the north it is separated from the district of Betzenhausen by the Dreisam , in the east on the other side of the Haslach freight railway line and in the south, separated by the Opfinger Straße, the district of Haslach-Haid. Finally, to the west, the new Rieselfeld district borders Weingarten.

Weingarten was built between 1964 and 1966 by the Freiburg municipal authorities . The district has about 11,110 inhabitants. It is characterized by its many high-rise buildings and the high proportion of foreigners compared to the rest of the Freiburg area. 48.2% of residents and 72.8% of residents under the age of 18 have a migration background (as of October 2013).

Public facilities

Churches

The Catholic St. Andrew's Church was built in 1968/69. The parish was founded in 1975. After a fire, the interior was renovated and redesigned in 1992/94. The Protestant Christians belong to the Dietrich Bonhoeffer community. There is also a New Apostolic Church .

Kindergartens

There are several care facilities for preschool children in the district:

  • two in the sponsorship of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt ,
  • three in Protestant sponsorship,
  • one in Catholic sponsorship and
  • an urban institution.

In the Weingarten house there is a school kindergarten that works closely with the Adolf Reichwein School, School for Educational Aid.

schools

The Adolf Reichwein School, named after the poet of the same name , is a school association of elementary school and school for educational assistance. Currently around 380 children attend the school in 16 classes and two primary school support classes (GFK). The pupils of the school for educational assistance are taught inclusive in the elementary school classes. They receive additional individual training and support offers.

University

The Evangelical University of Freiburg is located in Weingarten .

traffic

The district has been connected to the tram network since March 1994 . The two lines 3 ( Vauban - Haid) and 5 ( Rieselfeld - Europaplatz) run through Weingarten .

The district is connected to the Freiburg-Mitte motorway slip road via Besançonallee and thus to the 5 federal motorway.
