Günter Tidow

Günter Otto Tidow (born March 21, 1943 in Hamburg ; † January 31, 2016 ) was a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Tidow operated athletic decathlon at the performance level . From 1968 to 1995 he worked as a scientist at the Institute for Physical Exercise at the Ruhr University Bochum (later the Faculty of Sports Science) in the teaching and research areas of training science and athletics.

In 1991 he completed his habilitation and in 1995 he took up a professorship for training and movement science at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he held until his retirement in 2008.

Tidow's research focus included strength training and the concept of movement vision. Among other things, he led research projects on the subjects of back training / prevention of back problems, "Performance control with the sprint power machine (SKM) as a measuring and training device in athletics" as well as rowing performance and rowing technique. In sports practice, he worked as a youth national coach for the decathlon from 1971 to 1988. In the course of his scientific career, Tidow also published several articles on the subject of all-around competition. There were also other publications on track and field sub-disciplines, including the shot put , pole vault , hurdles and long jump . Furthermore, he dealt with the determination and promotion of talent in track and field all-around competition.
