history
The Günther-Messner-Hochferner-Bivouac was built in 1972 by the Sterzing Section of the South Tyrol Alpine Club and the Sterzing Mountain Rescue Service. In 1999 the bivouac box was renewed.
The bivouac was named after the mountaineer Günther Messner , the younger brother of Reinhold Messner , who had a fatal accident during an expedition on Nanga Parbat on June 29, 1970.
