The Hochfeilerhütte ( Italian Rifugio Gran Pilastro ) is a high alpine refuge at an altitude of 2710 m . It is located in the main ridge of the Zillertal Alps about two and a half kilometers as the crow flies southwest below the 3510 m high summit of the Hochfeiler , the highest mountain in the Zillertal Alps. The hut is located on Italian territory in the autonomous province of South Tyrol . It serves primarily as a base for climbing the Hochfeiler, the Hochferner and the Hohen Weißzint .
history
The first hut construction on the Hochfeiler was started in 1880 by the German and Austrian Alpine Association . At 3400 m, it was significantly higher than today's house. The hut was unmanaged, but fell into disrepair by 1900 due to little interest and lack of maintenance. From 1881 consisted of 2,665 meters which also unstaffed Vienna hut between the glaciers Weißkarferner and limbs Further 600 meters distance to the west below the current house. It was expanded several times up to the First World War . After the First World War, in 1922, it became the property of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI), managed by the Monza Section since 1926 . Shortly before the end of World War II , the hut was looted and badly damaged. In the 1950s, the CAI repaired them. In 1964, however, it was closed because the military occupied the hut during the political tensions surrounding the autonomy of South Tyrol . The Wiener Hütte was destroyed in 1967, but the exact cause is unclear, whether there was an avalanche or whether the hut was blown up by terrorists. From 1982 onwards, the Sterzing section of the Alpine Association South Tyrol (AVS) began planning the present hut, construction began in 1984 and the inauguration took place on September 14, 1986.
Access
- The hut can be reached from the west via Sterzing, the Pfitschertal and the Pfitscherjochstraße . From the third bend in the road, a three-hour hike.
- From the Edelrauthütte ( 2545 m ) to the southeast over the Gliderferner glacier in 2 ½ hours.
- In 6 to 8 hours over the Pfunderer Höhenweg from the Brixner Hütte at 2307 m altitude and the Edelrauthütte.
Tour possibilities
Various three-thousand-meter peaks of the Zillertal main ridge can be climbed from the Hochfeilerhütte:
- The Hochfeiler ( 3510 m ) can be reached in just under three hours via the southwest ridge. This path is often ice-free in warm late summers.
- The Hochferner ( 3463 m ) can be reached in 3 ½ hours. First you go in the direction of Hochfeiler, then over the Hochfeiler summit ridge and the upper flat part of the Weißkarferner northwest to the Hochferner (also called Hochfernerspitze ). It is a glacier tour, so appropriate equipment is required.
- The Hohen Weißzint ( 3371 m ) can be reached in three hours. First you go east through the lateral moraine of the Gliderferner , then the glacier has to be crossed over to the southeast side and to the Upper Weißzintscharte . Then it goes over an exposed block ridge in little to moderately difficult climbing in UIAA grade I to II to the summit.
