Günther Eckerland

Günther Eckerland (born November 14, 1919 in Kreidelwitz , Glogau district , † November 6, 1998 in Marl ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school, Eckerland completed a commercial training course, which he completed in 1937 with the examination for business assistant. He then did Reich labor service , took part in World War II as a soldier and was finally captured. After his return from captivity, Eckerland was an unskilled worker from 1945 to 1947, an employee at the Wernigerode employment office in 1947/48 and a miner from 1948 to 1957. Then he was employed as a commercial clerk.

Political party

Eckerland joined the SPD in 1948 and was elected chairman of the SPD local association in Hamm in 1957. The SPD Marl has been awarding the Günther Eckerland Medal to deserving citizens since 2008.

MP

Eckerland was a council member of the Hamm community since 1956 and was later elected to the district council of the Recklinghausen district. From 1962 he was a member of the Marl Council . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1976. In parliament he represented the constituency of Recklinghausen-Land .

Public offices

Eckerland was first deputy mayor and then from 1961 to 1974 mayor of the municipality of Hamm. After the incorporation he was mayor of the city of Marl from 1975 to 1984.
