Günther Fiala

Günther Fiala (* 1982 in Lower Austria ) is an Austrian composer .

Live and act

He grew up in Pottenstein an der Triesting , where he founded his own youth theater group at a young age, which he directed from 1996 to 2011. He received his musical training in the subjects of piano , singing and violoncello at the Triestingtal Music School . From 2003 to 2016 he studied music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and German philology at the University of Vienna (Mag. Art.). His teachers include Brigitte Stradiot (vocals), Michael Lipp and Helmuth Luksch (piano), Alfred Halbartschlager (composition) and Wolfram Wagner (composition). In addition, Günther Fiala took part in composition workshops with Otto M. Schwarz , Thomas Doss and Klemens Vereno .

For his services to cultural work with children and young people and his musical achievements, he was awarded the Silver Badge of Honor by the market town of Pottenstein in 2017.

Günther Fiala is a member of the following associations and institutions: Austrian Association of Composers (ÖKB), Interest Group for Lower Austrian Composers (INÖK), German Musical Academy (DMA) and Kulturnetznetz Niederösterreich .

He is a multiple winner of national and international composition competitions. Appearances and performances of his works led him a. a. to the Stadttheater Berndorf , the Theatercouch Vienna and the Theater Drachengasse in Vienna, Murau (Styria), the Berlin Philharmonic and the Stockwell Playhouse in London .

Prizes and awards

  • 2017: Prize winner at the composition competition of the Murau International Music Festival (MIMF).
  • 2017/2018: 1st prize in the composition competition of the Central Band Berlin.
  • 2017/2018: 3rd prize at the Symphonic Wind Composers Project.
  • 2018: Winner of the composition competition of the Hong Kong Children Choir.
  • 2018: Winner of the composition competition of the Austrian Composers' Union (ÖKB) and the Association of Austrian Lyricists (VOET).
  • 2018/2019: Winner of the Sight Reading Composition Project of the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA)
  • 2019/2020: Winner of the Sight Reading Composition Project of the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA)

Günther Fiala writes music for both the U and E areas. He wrote numerous musicals for children, teenagers and adults. His instrumental works for symphonic wind orchestra , string and symphony orchestras as well as chamber music ensembles can mainly be assigned to program music.
