Klemens Vereno

Klemens Eugen Vereno (born April 26, 1957 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian composer and university teacher.

Klemens Vereno created a diverse oeuvre . One focus of his work is vocal music and the oratorio . He is best known for the oratorios he wrote for the Salzburg Advent Singing .

biography

Klemens Vereno grew up in Salzburg. He soon began to make music (Orff Institute, recorder, children's choir from Radio Salzburg, violin) and to compose. In 1975 he graduated from the Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg and from 1972 to 1981 studied composition with Cesar Bresgen as well as violin, singing and conducting at the Salzburg Mozarteum ; Further studies in composition at the Music Academy of the City of Basel with Rudolf Kelterborn .

Teaching

Since 1978 Vereno has been teaching orchestration, vocal setting, musical setting, instrument studies and figured bass at the Mozarteum University . He also taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz from 1978 to 1985 and at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich from 2000 to 2008 . Since 2008 he has also been a lecturer at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg .

Since 1978 he has worked with the International Paul Hofhaymer Society and since 1981 has worked as an interpreter and composer in their concert series of old and new music . From 1988 to 1993 he was the conductor of the Salzburg Advent Singing in the Großer Festspielhaus . He has been a juror at the prima la musica youth competition since 1999. He was a founding member and has been Vice President of the IG Composers Salzburg since 2000 . Under his direction - together with Stefan David Hummel - many initiatives arose such as the Salzburg New Organ Music Days (1998), the founding of the composer's newspaper (1998), the New Church Music Day (2000) and the Salzburg Music Festival in 2002 and 2005.
