The Basel Madrigalisten are a Swiss vocal ensemble .

history

The Basel Madrigalisten were founded in 1978 at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis by Fritz Näf and directed by him until 2013. In 2013 Raphael Immoos took over the artistic direction. You appear as a vocal ensemble in various formations and also as a soloist. The repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to new music , the performance of which the ensemble specializes in, although it also makes references to older works. The Basel madrigalists work with instrumental ensembles and also directly with composers, some of whose works are presented in world premieres or Swiss premieres .

Compositions by contemporary composers from Switzerland such as Dieter Ammann , Werner Bärtschi , Matthias Heep , Heinz Holliger , Klaus Huber , Roland Moser , Mani Planzer , Balz Trümpy and Jürg Wyttenbach and from other countries such as Matthias Pintscher , Georg Friedrich Haas , Beat are performed Furrer , Erik Oña and Giles Swayne as well as Michael Glinka and Arthur Lourié .

The ensemble was a guest at the Lucerne Festival in 1990, 2015 and 2018 and performed at the MaerzMusik festival of the Berliner Festspiele in 2014 . In addition to several European countries, the Basel madrigalists performed in the USA , Lebanon and Russia . In 1996 they took part in the 4th World Choral Music Symposium and the World Choir Festival in Sydney , followed by a tour to Brisbane , Hong Kong and South Korea .

In addition to concert activities, staged performances and recordings for radio , television and sound carriers are part of the work of the Basel madrigalists. In 2013 compositions by Denis Schuler, Matthias Arter , Christian Henking , Urs Peter Schneider and Isabel Klaus were performed with the Ensemble Proton Bern in collaboration with the Swiss Music Research Society and the Dampfzentrale Bern . In 2014, works by Valentin Molitor (1637–1713) were recorded with Musica Fiorita and the support of the Swiss Music Research Society . In 2018 the opera Lunea by Heinz Holliger was premiered at the Zurich Opera House with the Philharmonia Zurich .

The patrons of the Basel madrigalists are Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga and the composer, conductor and oboist Heinz Holliger. They are supported by the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Basel-Stadt and by several foundations.
