The proton bern ensemble is a Swiss instrumental ensemble for new music .

history

The proton bern ensemble was founded in 2010 by members of the Boswil ensemble . The regular nine-person line-up is supplemented by guest musicians as required. The group has been ensemble in residence at the Dampfzentrale Bern cultural center since 2011 . In the 2012/2013 season she was also Ensemble of the Season at Gare du Nord (Basel) . In 2015, the Bernese opened the international festival for new music reMusik in St. Petersburg with a concert in the Mariinsky Theater .

The composer Christian Henking served as the ensemble's artistic advisory council from 2010 to 2014 . The ensemble is financed by the public purse and by foundations. It is also supported by patrons such as the entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss .

activities

The proton bern ensemble works with composers such as Matthias Arter , Michael Pelzel , Gérard Zinsstag , Antoine Chessex , Beat Furrer and Klaus Huber . At the invitation of Furrer, she recorded a CD with his works. In 2011 the ensemble will play a program with works based on poems by the writer Robert Walser . At the invitation of Radio France , the group recorded a CD in Paris with works by Samuel Andreyev .

Concerts by the ensemble are regularly recorded and broadcast by Radio SRF 2 Kultur . The Germany Kultur broadcast a concert of the ensemble.

As one of the few instrumental ensembles in the world, the proton bern ensemble uses the lupophone and contraforte instruments . Ensemble member Martin Bliggenstorfer is one of the pioneers on the Lupophon.

In addition to its concert activities , the proton bern ensemble is dedicated to promoting young composers via the protonwerk platform , which is supported by Pro Helvetia . The works composed especially for this purpose are premiered once a year at a concert in the steam center by the proton bern ensemble .
