Christian Henking

Christian Henking (born January 14, 1961 in Basel ) is a Swiss composer , conductor and choir director .

Life

Christian Henking was born in Basel in 1961. In 1981 he graduated from the Free Gymnasium in Bern . From 1981 to 1989 he studied music theory with Theo Hirsbrunner at the Bern Conservatory . He also had Ewald Körner train him to be Kapellmeister . From 1987 he took composition lessons with Cristóbal Halffter , Dimitri Terzakis and Edisson Denissow . He also attended master classes with Wolfgang Rihm and Heinz Holliger . He received further impulses from György Kurtág .

Henking led the Bern Amadeus Choir and from 1998 to 2007 the Vokalkollegium Bern . In 2010 he founded the Ensemble Proton Bern , whose artistic advisory board he became. He is also a lecturer in composition and music theory at the Bern University of the Arts. In 1993, Henking was one of the founding members of the Groupe Lacroix composer group . The majority of his compositions are published by the Müller & Schade music publisher in Bern.

In addition to music, he studied photography with Simon Stähli at the School of Design in Bern and Biel and with Tim Davoli and Carmelo Agovino. His art has already been exhibited in the Kornhaus in Bern and photo 09 in Zurich.
